Before and After: Basement Bathroom

Our basement bathroom has been our latest house project.  Our house was filthy when we moved in and this bathroom definitely was the worse room.  It took a lot for me to get motivated to work on it because I hated being in the room.  I really can't begin to say how gross this bathroom was.  And people used to use it like this filthy?  Yuck.  We wanted to make the bathroom useful and clean, but didn't have a ton of money to spend on it.  We are pretty pleased with the result and what we spent!  Observe:

Here is the before:

Luckily for you, the camera doesn't do a good job depicting grime . . .

Here is the after:

This is what we did:
  • Cleaned and scrubbed the bathroom (it took several days . . . not even joking . . . and now the tile is a different color)
  • Painted ceiling, walls, floorboards, and door (they used to all be the same dirty color)
  • Bought new shower curtain rod:  $15
  • Replaced the mirror:  $30
  • Bought garbage can $3
  • Added towels: Free (Don't you love free stuff?  They were towels that my parents had but weren't using.  They were pretty much new too!  Thanks Mom and Dad!)
  • Shower curtain that we have but hasn't been put up yet: Free (again, thanks Mom and Dad!)
So, besides paint and supplies, we only spent about $48.  Not bad!  Hooray for a clean and better looking bathroom!

  1. Great job Katie! Cleaning bathrooms are the worst, especially when it's not your mess. (ick!) It looks great!
